It almost here-the 8th annual Book/Food sale. This year’s sale will be held Saturday, June 25, from 9 AM to 1 PM in the Howard Lake Community Room (above the library). There will be something for everyone–books, movies, audio CDs, music CDs and jig saw puzzles. Prices start at 25 cents. The food menu will again feature tasty sloppy joes and strawberry shortcake.
From 12:30 PM to 1 PM, pay only $1 and fill one of the Friends bags with books, movies etc. No limit on the number of bags you may purchase.
This is the main fundraiser of the year for the Friends of the Howard Lake Library. Matching funds will be available through the generosity of Thrivent.

Once again, Howard Lake Drug and the Friends of the Library are sponsoring the Big Ice Cream Give-Away from Monday, June 13, through Saturday, June 18. All who register to participate in the Summer Reading program will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the drugstore. Contact the Howard Lake Library for more details.

The 2011 Summer Reading Program begins June 13. “One World, Many Stories” is the theme for the program for children up to age 12. For the teen, the theme is “You Are Here”. Check with the librarians for more information.

Award winning children’s author Jan Zita Grover will be in Howard Lake on February 12 and she will talk about being a writer and writing about dogs. Her award-winning book, “A Home For Dakota” is based on actual events about Dog # 241 born in a puppy mill and shows how caring people and a loving home transforms that puppy. [Read more →]

The Friends of the Howard Lake Library have done it again: the Library is beautifully decorated for the holiday season. The decorating, along with the accompanying potluck, has become a tradition for the Friends. Please stop in, borrow a good book or movie and wish the library staff a happy holiday season.

Looking for a special present? Shop with Friends this year–Friends of the Howard Lake Library, that is. On Saturday, December 11 from 10 AM to 1 PM, the Friends will again host their Book-tique in the Howard Lake Library. This fundraiser features nearly-new gift quality books, an interesting assortment of gift items and of course, our famous beaded book thongs. Proceeds from this sale will support Friends’ projects and programs.
The library will be decorated in its holiday finest and ready for your shopping pleasure. Don’t be late–the good stuff goes quickly and remember, most everything is one of a kind, so when it’s gone, it’s gone.

The 2010 Pumpkin Painting event was a huge success. Our artists painted some amazing treasures. Howard Lake Queen Amber even paid us a visit and painted along with the kids.

The Friends of the Howard Lake Library will again be hosting two pumpkin painting sessions. Both sessions are on Saturday, October 23. The first is at 9 AM and the second at 10 AM. For $3 person ( $10 max per family) the painter will receive a pumpkin and paint with cookies and Kool Aid for refreshments. Even though we use water-based paint, please wear old painting clothes.
Friends and family are invited to watch the artist work. Coffee and goodies will be available to eat in.
This event will be held in the Howard Lake Community Room (above the library). Preregistration is suggested. To sign up or for more information, please stop in or contact the librarians at 320.543.2020.
