Summer Reading Program Starts June 8

“Be Creative @ Your Library” is the theme for the 2009 GRRL Summer Reading Program.  This program runs from June 8 to August 8.  Sign up is free.   There are programs for ages 0 to 3 & 3 to 12.  There is a separate program for teens.  NEW this year:  sign up and receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the Howard Lake Drug Store.

There will be programs & prizes.  Check this site for more information, or contact the helpful librarians at the library or call 320.543.2020.

H L Library Has Gone to the Dogs

Two very special dogs, Penny and Sara, like listening to stories and area children are doing the reading.  Both dogs, along with their owners Carol & Neil Sideen and Pete Sargent, are members of Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.).  Besides providing a ready ear at the Howard Lake Library, the dogs  also go to area elementary schools.

May Storytime Event

Visit Old McDonald’s farm through stories, songs, games & crafts.  On Wednesday, May 13th, at the Howard Lake Library, expert storyteller, Mary Wherry, will again present a program for children ages 3 to 8.  This event runs from 6:15 to 7:00 PM.

Preregistration is not required.  For additional information, please contact the Howard Lake Library at 320.543.2020.

Penny the Dog back at the Howard Lake Library

Penny, the R.E.A.D. therapy dog, will again be at the Howard Lake Library for a second “read to your dog” event.  She will be at the Library on April 18th, at 11:30 AM.

Please register at the Library for a time slot.  You may either stop in or call 320.543.2020.

Penny so enjoys hearing a story that she is bringing along her doggie friend, Sara.  Both dogs are certified therapy dogs.

Junglewalk Storytime

Stories, songs, games and crafts.  Join Mary Wherry as she presents Junglewalk Storytime on Wednesday, April 15 from 6:15 to 7:00 PM.  Aimed toward youngsters ages 3 - 8, this program is limited to 20.  Preregistration is not required.

Read to Your Dog/Tail Waggin’ Tutors March 14

 Sponsored by a local member of Therapy Dogs International,  Tail Waggin’ Tutors will be at the Howard Lake Library on Saturday, March 14 from 10:30 to 12:00.  This is an opportunity for younger students to “read” to an accredited dog and handler.

“Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” Magic Show

What do the Cat in the Hat, the Lorax, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Rabbit have in common?  They are all featured in a new and exciting magic show coming February 21,  to  Howard Lake.   Lynn & Robert Halbrook (2008’s Chef Roberto) will present their new ‘kooky, crazy and just plain fun’ program to children aged 4 to 12, with families invited, too.

Gasp as oodles of fish appear, laugh as someone in the audience becomes the Cat in the Hat, thrill as Peter Cottontail literally climbs through the book pages and more!!!

Mark your calendars:  Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009;  Howard Lake Community Room (above library);  Show starts at 10:30 and is about 45 minutes long.  Registration is requested, but not required.  For more information, contact the library at 320.543.2020.
