The History Book is sold out; orders being taken

April 21st, 2008

The new “Howard Lake History Book, 130 Years of the Good Life,” has sold out, but it has been decided to order one second printing (and that’s all), of both hard and soft bound editions; composed of paid book orders. For soft bound, only 20 extra copies will be made, and so it is recommended that a paid book order be made if you want the book.

This book was composed by a committee of volunteers who donated their personal time from their busy schedules to complete the project. The book is being sold for cost. The six committee members are Marilyn Ringold, Stan Diers, Lynda Jensen (editor of Herald Journal and the Enterprise Dispatch), Mike Mitchell, Doris Rodd and Barb (Bakeberg) Undestad.

Deadline for book orders (soft or hard bound) is Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Please contact Marilyn Ringold to order your book. Payment must be made in advance. If you would like to be added to the hard-bound list, please send a note to Marilyn Ringold ringolma@mchsi.com. Books will be available in 30 days and can be picked up at the Howard Lake Drug Store.

The book is also available on CD for $8, which are for sale at the Howard Lake Drug Store as of today (Thursday, June 19). The CDs are searchable except for the public cemetery records (because they are handwritten) and the old copy of the book written in 1978 (that means 224 out of 378 pages are searchable). The book is a complete reprint of the first book, as well as an update from the past 30 years. There are several photos and interesting articles that will be included into the book.

Soft-bound books cost $22.50, or $27.50 with postage and handling if it must be mailed. Hard bound books are $38.50 each (or $46.50 for postage and handling).

These prices are made possible due to a generous contribution from the City of Howard Lake in honor of the city’s 130 anniversary (this is the same arrangement with the city made in 1978 with the first book. Also, Editor Pete Peterson was involved in the first book and Editor Lynda Jensen was involved in the new book. The Herald printed both books, both times). If you like the new book, please thank the city and city council members for their sponsorship of this book! The profit, if any, will be given back to Howard Lake Friends of the Library, the Howard Lake royalty, and perhaps one or two other entities, when that is decided by the committee. The remainder of the book is being paid for by the Howard Lake Historical Society, as well as a $100 donation from the American Legion Post 145, and a $100 donation from the Howard Lake Lions.
